Today at preschool graduation, the children of Anna's class had responded earlier to the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" When they came across the stage to receive their certificates, the director read aloud each child's response.
Some answers were the typical "princess" or "baseball player" kind of thing. Some were a little more original like "a hip-hop dancer" or "Anakin Skywalker."
Two girls who are Anna's friends wanted to be, "A clerk at Wal-mart."
As Anna walked up I held my breath.
"Anna wants to be," the director announced, "a writer!"
And Mama sighed with happiness, relief, and pride.
