Later on, two police boats went roaring by, sirens blaring. Quite a commotion. We heard that someone had lifted a life preserver on the pier which sets off an alarm automatically. No one had fallen in. So as the police were cruising back through the channel, Jeff said, "Annie, you should give them a wave." Anna's face was the picture of confusion when she replied, "But I'm not a blonde!"

She's No Blonde
In Grand Haven, MI, is a boardwalk from the lighthouse in Lake Michigan down the channel that leads into town. It is lined with little dunes and shops, mostly of the ice cream serving variety, and is quite the place to be on weekend evenings for strollers and boaters. The boats can come park and hang out, or cruise by. One boat full of young men, sobriety in question, was saying hello to cute young women via loud speaker. As they passed us and apparently an attractive girl of sorts we heard ,"Give me a wave - I love blonde." or something to that effect. Anna was instantly intrigued. "Why did he say that, Mama?" I tried to give a PG explanation that would satisfy her enough to move on to another topic of conversation.
