April Fools and Kids...A Match Made in Heaven

Kids are a never ending source of amusement.  April Fool's Day was annoying for a large part of my life... until my first child entered school.  Since then, it's a day that makes me love being around kids.  As my sister said, the things that make them laugh aren't funny - it's that the kids think they're funny that make them so.

This morning, Anna tried to come up with all kinds of jokes to play on Dad.  Of course, Anna is not quiet, so I'm sure he heard every single plot and all the laughter surrounding it.  She settled on hiding all of his shoes.  Dad decided to come downstairs as she was hiding the first pair, however. I wish I had been alert enough to grab the video camera, but, alas, the coffee was still brewing.  She gets this funny panicked dash around where she kind of shakes from head to toe.  As he came around the corner, she tried to whip them behind her back:  little girl, big shoes visible behind her.  Giggling like crazy she hollers "April Fools Dad!!"  and holds up the shoes.  He acted suitably "fooled", then proceeded to say he couldn't believe it snowed last night.  (Sorry Minnesotans, I read that Facebook status...) She ran to the window griping, "That's not fair!" And of course Jeff got to say, "April Fools!"

Molly, understandably, was not looking forward to spending April Fools with her fifth grade boy classmates.  She then shared what the "April Fools" jokes of yesteryear (kindergarten and first grade) used to be.  Kids would say such things to one another as, "Your hair is on fire!"  and  "A bee is in your mouth!"

You know, because surely someone would have to be told if their hair was on fire or a bee was in their mouth.
